How to Renew Your Dominican Passport From Abroad
What you need, what it costs, and how to book the appointment — without wasting a trip to the consulate.
If your Dominican passport is close to expiring, you don't need to fly home to renew it. Every Dominican consulate handles renewals, and as of 2026 the whole process starts online through MIREX's own booking system. The catch is that walk-ins are only served after appointment-holders, on whatever capacity is left — so the appointment is the part worth getting right.
🗓️ Book online first
Go to your consulate's page on servicios360.mirex.gob.do or the consulate's own site (for New York, usa.mirex.gob.do/consular/new-york), choose "passport renewal," and pick a date. You'll get a confirmation email with a QR code — print it or have it ready on your phone.
📄 What to bring
The passport you're renewing, an updated cédula, and a legalized birth certificate — if yours doesn't have the barcode consulates started issuing in 2014, get an updated one from the Junta Central Electoral before your appointment, since an old-format certificate is the single most common reason renewals get bounced.
💳 How you pay
Most consulates, including New York, don't take cash for passport services. Bring a credit card, debit card, or a money order — check your specific consulate's page, since accepted methods vary slightly by location.
Do this first: check your birth certificate before you book anything. If it predates 2014 or doesn't have a barcode, request the updated version from the JCE — that alone can take longer than the passport appointment itself.
Official source: book directly through servicios360.mirex.gob.do/pasaportes or your local consulate's site. Requirements can shift by consulate and by age (minors need additional paperwork) — always confirm on your consulate's own page before your appointment.
